Hospital to hold October 'Aging in America' Art Show
Northern Cochise Community Hospital and Nursing Home is sponsoring an art show to be displayed the month of October in the lobby area between the hospital and nursing home, said Ellen Clark, NCCH/NH community relations director.
The show's theme, "Aging in America," allows artists a wide array of possibilities, since artists can interpret the theme in so many ways, Clark said. She added that the theme affects all of us, as we all age - from babies to youth to adults to elderly.
Clark said anyone may enter, but if space becomes an issue, priority will be given to members of the Willcox Art League and employees of NCCH/NH.
All entries must be the artist's own original work in the "Aging in America" theme. Photography and computer-generated art may be accepted at the discretion of the art show consultant, Clark said.
Some other rules follow:
No artwork violating copyrights or trademarks, might be considered libelous or detrimental to any individual, or deemed inappropriate will be accepted.
Condition of artwork: All items must be finished, dry, sealed or otherwise protected. All flat pieces must be matted, mounted, or framed and ready to hang. Framed pieces should have an attached hanging wire. Three-dimensional art must be sturdy enough to sit on a table or on the floor.
You should ensure that your own insurance will cover your art while it is in the show or in transit. NCCH cannot provide insurance coverage for art entered in the show.
Judging will be done by "popular vote," she said. Provisions will be made for every visitor during the first week of the show to vote on the piece they judge to be best.
The "winner" by popular vote will receive a $100 stipend from NCCH/NH, Clark said.
To enter the NCCH/NH Aging in America art show, fill out an application form as soon as possible. Forms are available from the community relations director of NCCH, Ellen Clark, at the hospital. Or call 384-8527.
There is no entry fee.
Artwork that is accepted in the show should remain as part of the show through Oct. 31.
Clark said artwork must be delivered to NCCH between Sept. 27 and Sept. 30, and picked up anytime from Nov. 1-3.
"Feel free to price your work or mark it 'not for sale,' she said, adding that NCCH/NH assumes no responsibility for sales and all sales are between buyer and seller.
Clark said that hospital and nursing home staff will monitor the show and reasonable care will be taken to assure the security of artwork. All outside doors are locked after 8 p.m. each day.
