Wick brothers to become Arizona Newspaper Hall of Fame members
Walt and Bob Wick of Wick Communications Co. in Sierra Vista are to become members of the Arizona Newspaper Hall of Fame in September.
A lifetime of devotion to newspapers is only one of the criteria required to be nominated to the Hall of Fame. Also recognized is a strong devotion to community.
Walt and Bob Wick joined their father Milton I. Wick in the family newspaper business in 1965 when the company owned 27 newspapers. They now own 39 properties in 12 states, including the San Pedro Valley News-Sun in Benson and the Arizona Range News in Willcox.
The late Milton Wick was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996.
"I believe that the Wick brothers personify community newspaper pride and integrity. They provide continuous support of journalism and writing education while upholding at all times the right of a reader to be informed," wrote Pam Mox, publisher of the Green Valley News & Sun.
The Hall of Fame induction will be held after dinner on Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at the Fall Convention of the Arizona Newspapers Association. The event will be at the Paradise Valley Doubletree Resort on Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.
The Arizona Newspapers Association has more than 110 members and is devoted to supporting the industry by strengthening and protecting the public's right to know. The late Cloves Campbell Sr., publisher of the Arizona Informant, and Professor Bruce D. Itule of Arizona State University, will also be inducted.
