The grand opening of Queso Santa Maria Gourmet Cheese Manufacturing Plant, is scheduled for Saturday, August 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The plant is located at 10196 N. Whitefawn Road in Elfrida.

Mariachi music, Folklorico dancers, additional entertainment, carne asada, beans, rice, beverages, and samples of our new cheeses will be available. Tours of the plant will be given to those requesting them. Ribbon cutting is set for 1 p.m.

Honored guests will include Dr. John Arnold from Project PPEP in Tucson, and Mr. Lorenzo Lamas from the television show, The Bold and the Beautiful. Lamas is scheduled to appear from noon until 2 p.m.

"Queso Santa Maria is a partnership of individuals dedicated to providing jobs within the local communities of Cochise County. We intend to purchase as many raw materials needed from local businesses, thereby creating more jobs in their businesses as well. We also intended to contribute back to the communities as much as we can, whenever we can, in the form of financial support, donated services or materials," said John Oberreuter.

Queso Santa Maria is funded by PPEP and private local funds.

Queso Santa Maria will be producing Mexican-style gourmet cheeses: Queso Fresco, Panela and Cotija. More varieties will also be introduced in the future, as will other Mexican-style foods.

So come on down and enjoy yourself on Saturday in Elfrida. Take Interstate 10 to Highway 191 south (exit 331). Go south until you reach Elfrida, and take Jefferson Street east for three miles to Whitefawn Road. Turn south on Whitefawn Road for 1/2 of a mile and you will reach the factory.
